Here’s my chat with Heather Woodin, Director of Programs at the Nova Scotia SPCA!
It’s Spring (Almost Summer)! A great time to be outside and around your property! Many people in Nova Scotia have out-buildings or barns that might be missing a little fluffy gardian.
Did you know that the Nova Scotia SPCA has a unique program that might be right for someone that wants a cat around but might not nessasaraly want one inside? It’s called the Barn Cat program.
Some cats that are or were feral, are not sutable indoor pets, but may be a good barn or shed cat for someone who likes cats and also likes to keep the local rodent population down. Plus the SPCA will wave the adoption fee.
I know this isn’t a new idea but, I think it’s a great program that mutaualy helps cats and shed or barn owners. You can check out all the detials and contact info HERE
Here are some things to keep in mind when taking care of a barn cat, from SHAID animal shelter’s website. They have a similer program in Lunenburg County.
