Barrington is getting ready to say thank you.
Hundreds of firefighters and first responders will be in attendance for a special ceremony and supper on Saturday.
It comes over a year after the largest wildfire in our province’s history.
Local resident Paula Sutherland says she brainstormed the idea with Shelly d’Eon last year.
“We were just going to do it for the local departments, but that wouldn’t have been enough. We want to honour the over 60 fire departments who were here, 1,500 firefighters and many volunteers,” said Sutherland.
It’s happening at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena, over 700 are expected to attend.
It’s for all firefighters, first responders and volunteers.
At 10 p.m. there will be a benefit dance at the curling club that’s open to the public.
It will feature a performance from country music singer Cruz Vallis.
Earlier in the day, an art tribute will be unveiled in Shelburne.
Sutherland says it’s going to be a great day.
“If you see a firefighter, thank them, shake their hand. The gratitude that we have for what they did in this area one year ago is unbelievable. We can’t say thank you enough.”
