Province, NSTU reach 'tentative deal' on new contract

The province says they have a tentative agreement in place with the Nova Scotia Teachers Union.

Details of the new contract won’t be released until the province’s 1,100 teachers vote to ratify the deal.

Premier Tim Houston says he’s happy the bargaining teams were able to get a deal that’s fair to teachers and ensures improved classroom conditions.

In an email to members, NSTU President Ryan Lutes says details of the agreement will be presented after a meeting on May 1.

A ratification vote is expected on May 22.

The current four-year deal expired in 2023.

The NSTU said they had an agreement ‘in principle’ with the province on April 17, just one week after 98 percent of members voted for strike action.
