A milestone for Scotian Shores.
After yesterday’s clean-up of Yarmouth Bar, they hit the one million pounds cleaned mark.
Angela Riley founded the group in 2020, and says they reached a 10-year goal in just four years.
“Crazy to think that that much has been removed. A third of that have been solo-pickers, and people going out and doing their own clean-ups too,” said Riley.
Sunday’s clean-up had 12 volunteers, with nearly 6,000 pounds removed.
Riley thanks the ‘Forchu Ladies’ who frequently pick up the area.
“They organized a lot of it into piles for us. We found a large portion of tires, and a wharf that’s falling apart that we tried to help clean up. There definitely was some damage from recent storms.”
She says about 10 lobster traps were found on False Harbour beach.
