A new year and lots of roster moves for the Yarmouth Mariners.
The MHL trade deadline is next week, and the team has been busy.
They’ve traded forwards Jean-Alexandre Tetreault and Damian Metastasio to Campbellton and Miramichi respectively, and goaltender Ben Williams was also dealt to the Tigers.
Goalie Will Forbes was acquired from the Valley to replace Williams, he’ll team with number one goalie Thomas Fontaine down the stretch.
A big addition to the team was announced Friday, as forward Michael Marquez has returned after an impressive performance last season.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says he’s excited to flip the calendar.
“We kind of limped into the break a little bit with a bunch of injuries and some suspensions. Tyler Lee is the only player that’s not 100 percent healthy. We are looking forward to a great second half,” said Barron.
Captain Will Chisholm and forward Jerome Nadeau are also back after missing time with injury.
He says forward Jerome Gilbert has requested a trade, and he’s working on facilitating that.
“I’d say by January 10th, you’ll see at least 2 more players join the team. Our division is tough, Summerside is very tough, then we’re just ahead of teams like Pictou County and Truro. We want to give ourselves the best possible opportunity to win.”
The team gets back in action tonight against West Kent at Mariners Centre.
