The Yarmouth Mariners got right back in the win column after a tough loss at home.
The Mariners beat Pictou County 6-3 Sunday night at Mariners Centre, responding after a 6-2 defeat to Edmundston the night before.
Saturday’s game saw the Blizzard storm out to a 5-1 lead in the 2nd before Nathan Carter scored. Kyle McGuire had the other Yarmouth goal.
Sunday, the Mariners top line of Carter, Jerome Nadeau and Will Chisholm controlled the game, combining for 8 points.
Yarmouth is now 3-2 on the season.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says it was a gritty win over the Crushers.
“We got knocked off the horse a little bit against Edmundston, but we bounced back. That’s big for a young team after a tough loss,” said Barron.
Yarmouth also lost goaltender Keegan Warren to the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL.
He was the backup to Joey Lovullo in last year’s playoffs, which saw the Mariners go 12-0 to win a championship.
Barron says they’re happy for him.
“We take great pride in getting players to the next level, and it’s a feather in the organization’s cap. Keegan is a great player, we wish him nothing but the best. We don’t know if we’ll see him again, but we’re happy for him. We’ll see what we have to do to address that gap in the lineup.”
Thomas Fontaine played both games on the weekend.
The Mariners are back home Saturday night against Grand Falls.
