Weymouth Falls will get a prestigious award this weekend.
Lt. Governor Arthur J. LeBlanc will be in the community tomorrow to hand out the Community Spirit Award.
It coincides with the bi-annual Homecoming Celebration for the historic African Nova Scotian community.
Shekara Grant, who’s grandmother grew up in Weymouth Falls says it means a lot.
“It’s really important to demonstrate that the legacy of historic African Nova Scotian communities is still there,” said Grant.
Grant is the co-chair of the African Nova Scotian Road to Economic Prosperity Youth Council, and is back in the community for the first homecoming celebration since 2018.
“Every reunion we have in Weymouth Falls, you’ll see at least 1,000 people show up. I was the youngest person at the first one in 1995, It’s a great celebration.”
She says the ceremony will start at 12:30 at the Weymouth Legion.
A car parade will follow the event.
