You may have noticed that our 96.3 transmitter is “down” or not broadcasting to the Shelburne County area! Sometimes it can be a little hard to understand what that actually means so let’s break it down! First of all, I’m no engineer so this is the information that the hard-working team at the transmitter site have told me!
The Problem
Our Barrington transmitter, like all transmitters takes our broadcast from our radio station and turns it into radio waves so it can travel long distances, it is housed underneath a very high tower. The tower obviously sends the radio signal to your personal radio in your car or house through an antenna.
Sometimes though, the connections between the transmitter down below and the antenna can get cut off. There are lots of different reasons why this can happen but the biggest reason is environmental interference like ice build-up or heat or in the case of yesterday heavy rain.
Water can block or interfere with the signal that runs from the transmitter to the tower and that’s what we think happened yesterday! A faulty or old part may have let in water thus cutting off the connection.
The Solution
Our engineering team is hard at working making sure this is the cause and to get the 96.3 transmitter up and running soon. The timeline is still up in the air as a tower crew may need to be dispatched and take a climb to fix the problem. We’ll keep you updated and informed if anything changes but you can be assured, we are looking into it!
For now, keep tuning in online at CJLS.com or on the Radio Player Canada app. I also know many areas in Shelburne pick up 95.5 so that may be an option too. You can also ask your smart speaker to play CJLS!
We really want to thanks you for your understanding and we hope these breaks things down and explains the problem a little better. If you have any more questions or comments don’t hesitate to reach out by giving us a call or texting us at 1800-496-2557!
