A boost for the Yarmouth Fuel Bank to help people in need heat their homes.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #155 in Wedgeport have donated $800.
Treasurer Anne Richard presented the cheque to Reverend Bill Newell this morning at the Yarmouth Food Bank.
“We know there’s a growing need since COVID-19 for fuel here and we decided that the fuel bank would be one of our donations for this year.”
She says they’ve donated $500 to both the Wedgeport school and Plymouth school lunch programs.
Another $500 has been donated to assist a person from Ukraine who recently settled in the area.
“It all helps, it all adds up because there’s an ongoing need,” says Reverend Newell. “We’re usually open from January to March, we try to at lease. Hopefully we can make it to March.”
He says once they run out of funds the fuel bank closes and the demand has increased this year.
