The Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships are underway at Mariners Centre.
Twenty-eight teams are here for the men’s and women’s competitions this week.
An opening reception was held at the curling club on Saturday night.
Special guest, former Brier and World champion Randy Ferbey spoke about the importance of making it to this stage.
“Congratulations curlers. What you’ve done and accomplished in your provinces and territories is huge. There are lots of other curlers that want to be here, but they can’t be because you earned this spot,” says Ferbey.
Three draws are taking place today, with Team Nova Scotia’s men’s and women’s teams both sitting at 1-0.
On the men’s side, Al ‘Iceman’ Hackner is playing his final professional tournament.
He’s won two Brier’s and two World Championship for Northern Ontario.
In the women’s competition, Saskatchewan’s Sherry Anderson is going for her record fifth straight seniors title.
