Fundraising for a new playground at Meadowfields School continues.
The total budget is 340-thousand dollars, and so far they’ve raised 30-thousand.
Vice-Principal of the elementary school Kevin Gobien says it’s a lofty amount, but they want it to be a safer space.
“Having some separation between the existing parking lot and playground, we want to make it accessible, so we’ll have to adjust the surface. That comes at a pretty heavy cost,” says Gobien.
He says they want to increase the space, and add a walking-track and outdoor classroom.
Gobien says the fundraising committee has been busy.
“We’ve had yard-sale, a couple of barbecues, silent auction, and we’ll have a lot more coming up. We’re trying to find creative ways to get the community’s attention, so that hopefully we can have a playground in place by next September.”
A car-rally fundraiser that was scheduled for this Saturday in Yarmouth has been postponed to the spring.
The Town and Municipality of Yarmouth have each been asked for 75-thousand dollars, and the councils are reviewing the request.
