The Yarmouth Mariners split a pair of home games over the weekend.
They fell 3-2 to the Bearcats on Friday night, despite clawing back from a 3-0 deficit in the first period.
Saturday night, the Mariners edged South Shore 4-2, with Michael Marquez getting his first goal and first star honours.
Reid Vos, Reilly Mayne and Tyler Lee also scored, and Keegan Warren got the win in goal as the Mariners outshot the Lumberjacks 38-15.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says he’s pleased with how they played.
“You take away the first period against Truro, I thought we played extremely well. Being without some key pieces, I was happy with how we played, especially just having five defensemen available,” says Barron.
Mariners co-captain Kieran Burke served a two-game suspension, and Franco Canevari was also out for the weekend.
Jared Pitman of Tusket made his MHL debut in Friday night’s game as a call-up from the South Shore Mustangs.
The Mariners have a record of 8-5 this season.
They’re back home this weekend with games against Fredericton on Friday and a re-match with Truro Saturday.
Pink in the Rink:
The Mariners wrapped up their ‘Pink in the Rink’ initiative, with jersey bids still taking place until November 2nd at 5 p.m.
All proceeds go to the Edwin Janke Cancer Centre at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
Two cancer survivors dropped the puck on the weekend, Sheila LeBlanc on Friday, and Gina Burke, the mother of co-captain Kieran Burke on Saturday.
