An invasive plant has been a nuisance in Yarmouth County this year.
It’s called a ‘tansy ragwort,’ and is also known as a ‘stinking willie.’
The Town of Yarmouth is asking residents to do what they can to properly remove the yellow flowered plants, which can be harmful to animals.
Dave Sollows with the Communities in Bloom committee says it’s been in Nova Scotia since the 60s.
“The first year, it grows with a little circle of ragged looking leaves. The second year, it will sprout right up with yellow flowers. It’s very toxic to livestock,” says Sollows.
The town says you shouldn’t place it in your compost, as it could spread further.
You’re asked to dispose of it in clear bags for pickup on garbage day only.
