The best axe-throwers on the planet are in Barrington this weekend.
The World Double-Bit Axe-Throwing Championships take place at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena Friday to Sunday.
Ryan McIntyre, organizing committee chair says hundreds of competitors are ready to bring their best.
“Right now, we have ten different nations being represented. From Canada and the U.S. to Sweden and Estonia, we have a lot of representation,” says McIntyre.
He says there will be many local axe-throwers in men’s, women’s, youth and teams divisions.
Qualifying rounds start Friday morning at 9.
McIntyre says lots of Barrington-area throwers like Darren Hudson and Suzy Atwood will be taking part.
“To me, we have a talent field locally that are some of the top throwers in the world.”
He says there’s lots for people to watch and experience, including the opening ceremony Friday at 2:30.
TSN is broadcasting the event, and will air it this fall.
The Scott family of Barrington is hosting a timber show tonight at the Wild Axe Park in Barrington.
