The Municipality of the District of Yarmouth is joining communities across Nova Scotia to offer the Veterans Memorial Banner program.
Ten banner spots each will be available in Port Maitland, Arcadia, South Ohio, and Carleton.
They’ll be put on power poles during the month of November and reused for the following two years.
The municipality is now taking applications for the program. Those chosen can purchase a banner for $161, taxes in, and will be displayed for 3 years.
Warden John Cunningham discussed how the municipality got involved in the program.
“We received a call from the legion asking if the municipality would be in support of the banner program,” says Cunningham “As we know, other municipal units are involved in this program, it’s a good way to remember our veterans.”
The deadline for applications is August 19th. They can be emailed to mark@district.yarmouth.ns.ca.
The Municipality plans on adding an additional ten banners in each community for the second and third years of the program.
“It’s just one small way of ‘lest we forget’,” says Cunningham. “It’s a good way to remember all the sacrifices and hardships that our veterans had during the world wars and the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth council is more than pleased to move forward with this program.”
