A ball tournament this weekend in Hebron to raise funds for a Yarmouth man and his family.
Josh Atkins, who coached softball and hockey in the community, suffered a head injury earlier this year.
A charity hockey game in March raised over $24,000 toward his journey to recovery.
Organizer Brandon Trask says they thought it would be appropriate to hold a softball event this weekend.
“We agreed that Josh should have a softball event. As much as he’s into hockey, he’s also involved in softball, if not more,” says Trask.
He says 19 teams have registered for the two-day tournament, which begins Saturday.
Trask says Atkins is making progress.
“He’s up in a wheelchair two to four hours a day, and he’s moving around in that pretty good. He’s giving hand gestures when you ask questions, and he’s smiling. All positive things for sure”
All proceeds from the weekend will go to Atkins and his family.
There will be a barbeque, raffles, auctions and a 50/50 draw.
