The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners will play their first home game on Saturday, September 17th against the defending champion Summerside Western Capitals.
Under new ownership, changes to game day structure and a lowering of ticket prices are in the works.
One of the changes will be moving the start time of games from 7:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Co-owner and assistant coach Jared Purdy says they’ll be hosting minor hockey teams.
“We want the kids to come to the games. We’ll have a designated section at the rink for the ‘mini-Mariners,’ with 40 tickets a game for minor hockey teams to come experience the game with their families,” says Purdy.
He says COVID was hard on a lot of families, and they want to make it equitable for fans to come to the games.
“We’ll have more affordable season tickets and family packages available. There is a lot of work to do, but a lot of excitement right now among our group.”
Purdy says they’re working on sponsorship opportunities, and they want to bring a more entertaining experience back to the Fishtank.
The Mariners are now preparing for the MHL Draft on July 15th.
