A record Mako shark caught off Yarmouth has been immortalized on the town’s waterfront.
A replica of the shark made from fiberglass was unveiled Saturday by the Yarmouth Shark Scramble Committee.
The Mako was caught with rod and reel on August 21, 2004 by the crew of the Pembroke Princess.
It was a mature female, 21 years old, weighing over 1084 pounds. The mako measured 10 foot eight inches from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail.
It was made by Brown’s taxidermy in Florida and transported to Yarmouth.
A number of local groups and organizations sponsored the creation of the replica.
The Yarmouth Shark Scramble will take place from August 17th-20th.
