A Yarmouth wrestler is heading to the Canada Games with Team Nova Scotia in August.
Fifteen year old Olivia Hamilton won the national under-17 Greco Roman wrestling championship in Alberta last weekend.
She says she’s been in the sport for four years, including travelling to Halifax to wrestle every weekend for two years.
Hamilton says she’s had lots of support as she gears up for the games.
“My coaches and family have been very big supporters, and my school (YCMHS), even though wrestling isn’t a widely recognized sport. It’s been very good,” says Hamilton.
Hamilton says the Canada Games have been in her sights for a while.
“My coach has a paper from when I was in Grade 7 that said ‘my goal is to go to the Canada Games.’ It’s crazy that three years later, I’m actually going to do it.”
She also picked up the most outstanding female wrestler at the Alberta tournament.
The Canada Games will be held in Ontario from August 6-21.
