The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners are under new ownership.
Pending league approval, Mitch Bonnar is selling the Junior A franchise to Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron, assistant coaches John Murphy and Jared Purdy, and local lawyer Alex Pink.
Barron, who’s been a coach with the team for 16 years, says he’s always felt like a big part of the club.
“This is just the next step. I’m excited to get into this with three guys that share the same passion that I do. I’m very excited,” says Barron.
Bonnar had been an owner of the team since 2010, and took sole ownership in 2019.
Purdy says the new ownership group will be developing plans for a new ticket price structure, to make it more equitable for fans to attend games.
“We want our players to be involved in the community as well. Game day experiences will be different, there will be different vibes around the rink, it’s exciting,” says Purdy.
Barron says they’re thankful.
“We want to say a big thank you to Mitch and his family for all they’ve done for the team. We are excited that they have granted us this opportunity.”
