If you’re a history buff you might just get your chance to step onto the Titanic.
A business development firm is proposing a $300 million project to build a replica of the famed British luxury passenger liner at the Port of Halifax.
The Titanic was the largest ship in the world before its tragic sinking after striking an iceberg during its maiden voyage on April 14–15, 1912.
Clark Squires & Associates say the replica will have 150 first and second-class cabins for guests to stay the night and a giant banquet room. The room will mirror the iconic space on the ship.
It’s estimated the project will employ up to 400 people.
“We will immerse every visitor in the Titanic Experience,” the firm says in a statement.
It’s estimated over 500,000 people will visit the Nova Scotia Titanic Experience per year.
The replica will also have escape hatches, virtual reality rooms, an aquarium, and a first-of-its-kind hologram cinema featuring movies, musicals, and concerts.
“Our revolutionary 4D holographic stage will offer movies and content on the Titanic, as well as, live Broadway plays and musicals, Las Vegas shows, concerts by world leading bands and group operas, symphonies, and ballets instantly in our cinema by hologram and live local plays and entertainment,” Clark Squires & Associates says.
The museum will also have artifacts from the Titanic on loan displayed in its showroom.
The ship had been en route to New York City from Southampton, England when it sank. About 1,500 people were killed.
The Titanic had been famed for its opulence and had been billed as the ‘unsinkable ship.’
Its rusted remains rest on the bottom of the ocean, southeast of Halifax.
