This Monday, June 6th marks the 78th anniversary of D-Day.
It’s the day where thousands of soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, in what was the beginning of the end of the Second World War.
Each year, the Wedgeport Legion Branch 155 holds a ceremony, and this year’s event will take place this Saturday.
Legion secretary Andre Boudreau says several WWII veterans will be honoured.
“There are five surviving members of the Second World War. We have to make sure the generations of today, our youth, don’t forget what happened back in ’44,” says Boudreau.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Legion, and will include a commemorative service on D-Day and the Liberation of Holland.
Boudreau says a reception will follow, and it’s open to everyone.
