Courtesy of the latest round of funding from the Atlantic Canadian Opportunities Agency’s Tourism Relief Fund the Deep Sky Observatory has two new telescopes for this season.
Deep Sky Owner/Operator Tim Doucette says they have purchased two new telescopes that have mirrors double the size of the ones utilized previously, “It will enable us and our visitors to see more of the night sky and objects will be clearer,”.
The telescopes are relatively small and can be taken outdoors where visitors are allowed to use them.

During the pandemic, the observatory had to transition to offering outdoor experiences in order to comply with gathering limits and some of the funds they are receiving will go towards enhancing those experiences.
Those improvements include; an improved projector and sound system, and zero gravity chairs to increase outdoor seating capacity.
There are also plans to increase the facilities accessibility.
According to Doucette, they made plans to buy the telescopes prior to the funding approval, which means they are already on-site and ready for use.
“The timing worked out pretty great, we are all set up and our opening night is tonight (June 1) so we’re excited to bring our first group through.
The Deep Sky Observatory is now accepting bookings for its summer season, info on how to do so can be found on their website.
