Another honour for Yarmouth Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron.
He is nominated for the Darcy Haugan/Mark Cross Memorial Award as the top Canadian Junior A coach.
Barron, who was friends with Haugan, says it makes it that much more emotional.
“I thought of us as good friends. He was just an amazing person, and I’m so happy I got the chance to meet Darcy,” says Barron.
Haugan was the Head Coach of the Humboldt Broncos, and was a victim of the bus crash in 2018.
Barron is one of six finalists for the award. He won the MHL’s Coach of the Year honours this season.
He says it’s nice to be in the conversation.
“At 55 years old and doing this for the last 20 years and trying to make a living, it’s nice to have your name out there with some of the big hitters.”
The award will be presented through the NHL Coaches Association.
