A ban on consumer fireworks could be coming for the Town of Yarmouth.
Council proposing changes to the noise by-law, which would make it illegal to set off the fireworks in the town, except on holidays like Canada Day and New Year’s Eve.
Mayor Pam Mood says they’ve heard from a lot of concerned citizens about fireworks being set-off randomly.
“People with pets that go wild when the fireworks happen, and also people with PTSD and veterans that have been in a war-zone. There are so many different issues when it comes to fireworks and how they affect people and our pets,” says Mood.
She says they’ve listed some dates, and will work to make sure that the ban doesn’t include most holidays.
Council also wants to place signage at retail displays of fireworks notifying consumers of the change.
The amendments must be approved and go through council for first and second readings.
