It’s a welcome sight for tourism in our area.
The ‘CAT’ ferry sailed into Yarmouth Harbour this morning, as preparations continue for the Nova Scotia-to-Maine service to resume next month.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood says next to our fishery, tourism is what keeps us going.
“To be the welcoming mat for tens of thousands of people, and for them to spend money here. It’s important for our accommodations that have had it so rough the past couple of years,” says Mayor Mood.
The first trip with passengers is scheduled for May 19th.
Mood commends local businesses for fighting through the pandemic.
“The shops that have been able to pivot enough to stay alive. It’s been a tough couple of years, and every little bit counts. We have to understand just how important tourism is.”
The Bay Ferries vessel hasn’t operated commercially since 2018 due to the pandemic and work at the terminal in Bar Harbor.
