Tomorrow is Earth Day, and you can do your part to help the planet this weekend in Yarmouth.
A County Wide Community Cleanup starts at Mariners Centre on Saturday at 11 a.m.
One of the organizers and municipal councillor Nick Hilton says litter cleanup in ditches and on beaches is not something that’s funded.
“We’re looking to advocate for that change. We know that it’s a problem, but not many recognize it. Part of the weekend activity is to shed some light on this issue,” says Hilton.
The day will also feature a bouncy castle and a children’s scavenger hunt.
A celebration will take place after the cleanup with live music, a BBQ, and environmental education and awareness presentations.
To enter, you must present a bag of picked-up garbage.
“We need to show this community that littering is not something to tolerate, and we can show some pride in our community as tourism season is coming up.”
On Sunday, a beach cleanup in partnership with Scotian Shores will take place in Chebogue Point and Pembroke.
