History for a Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw runner.
Jarvis GooGoo is the first person from We’koqma’q First Nation to quality for and finish the Boston Marathon.
He finished in a time of 03:15 minutes.
As a Mi’kmaw runner, I’m grateful to do the @bostonmarathon on the ancestral homelands of the Massachusett, the Mashpee Wampanoag, and the Pawtucket people. Indigenous runners have participated in this race over its long history. I’m honoured to now be one of them. pic.twitter.com/y8G9XhayDM

GooGoo lives in Dartmouth but is originally from the First Nation in Cape Breton.
Meantime, Kenyans Evans Chebet and Peres Jepchirchir won the men’s and women’s divisions.
For Chebet, he finished in just over 02:15 minutes. It’s his first win at the Boston Marathon, he previously ran in 2018 and did not finish.
