Clare Liberal MLA and Acadian Affairs and Francophonie critic Ronnie LeBlanc has introduced legislation to provide enhanced protection to the French language in Nova Scotia.
LeBlanc introduced the Acadian and Francophone Education Act in the legislature Tuesday.
According to the Liberal caucus, the act would ensure Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial students would receive a Charter-compliant education, which they say reflects the cultural and linguistic rights of Acadians and Francophones in Nova Scotia.
LeBlanc says one of the reasons he ran for MLA was to work with the CSAP to protect the French language within the education system.
The first reading was held Tuesday, the second reading will be at a later date where MLA’s will have a chance to debate the act.
