A ceremony to remember the Battle of Vimy Ridge this Saturday.
The Wedgeport Legion Branch 155 is hosting the commemoration at 11 a.m. at the Yarmouth cenotaph on Main Street.
Andre Boudreau with the legion says all veterans, legionnaires and members of the public are welcome to attend.
“Some historians say, that’s when Canada truly became a nation. It was a major battle won by the Canadians, that other nations like the British and French, couldn’t do,” says Boudreau.
He says the battle took place from April 9th to 12th, 1917, as Canadian troops gained a reputation as formidable and effective.
Nearly 3,600 Canadian troops died, and around 7,000 were injured in the battle.
Vimy Ridge Day has been observed in Canada since 2003.
