A major curling event is officially coming to Yarmouth.
Curling Canada announcing today that the 2022 national senior championships will be played at Mariners Centre December 5th-10th.
It’s the first curling tournament at the facility since November, 2016, when the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships were held.
Mayor Pam Mood says it’s a great opportunity for the region.
“To host an event of this size and magnitude on a shoulder season, it’s wonderful,” says Mood.
Mood says they’ll be looking to build on what’s promised to be a strong tourism season this summer.
“We have a great tourist season coming up, and as we go into the fall and winter months, it’s tremendously important to have events like this. We’re excited to host, it’s what we do best.”
Digby hosted the event in 2016.
The Town and Municipality of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Argyle have all committed funds to the event.
