The Executive Director of the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association is looking back on last year’s tourism season and ahead to this season.
Neil Mackenzie says last year they sold more rooms in the region than in 2019.
He says, barring the return of travel restrictions, they expect this year to be better than last year.
“We’re feeling really positive. We’ve been working closely with our partners Tourism Nova Scotia, of course our municipal partners, Bay Ferries and many other private sectors and not for profits to get out plans in place for the next year or so.”
This year marks the return of the CAT ferry, linking our region to the United States.
Mackenzie says the ferry is important not just for the Tri-Counties, but for the whole province.
He recently returned from a consumer show in Boston. These shows are for travelers to learn about different destinations and activities.
Mackenzie says YASTA was there to represent the region.
“These shows are a lot of one on one conversations with people that are looking for destinations, looking for ideas for vacations and where to go,” says Mackenzie. “They want to learn about Nova Scotia and they want to know what to do when they get here so we’re there to council them and give them ideas.”
He says he spoke with lots of people with connections to Nova Scotia.
