Professors, librarians and some students continue to protest at Université Sainte-Anne.
93 per cent of professors and librarians voted in favour of strike action, if necessary in February.
They walked off the job earlier this month.
On Friday they will receive more support, when they are joined by profs and librarians who are coming from across Canada.
Protesting professor Darryl Whetter says it’s heartwarming to receive the support.
“And that actually is one of the surprising feelings of a strike, is to feel how much mutual support there is,” says Whetter. “We’re really drawn together as a team within Sainte-Anne and then to be joined by these profs from across the country, it is so so heartwarming.”
He says there are at least six professors and librarians who will be joining them so far.
Whetter added they have a common goal of protesting what they call “the increasing autocracy at Canadian universities”
He also discussed where they are at negotiating with administration.
“We felt that the president and vice president here were not meaningfully engaged in negotiations so with the strike those negotiations have resumed so at least both sides are at the table and talking, so there has been some progress has been made.”
The strike is now in its third week, a “Tinamarre Triste” was held by the protesters earlier this month, with the utensils used being donated to students.
