A big night of fundraising for a local hockey coach in Yarmouth.
The Tri-County Gentlemen’s League played an All-Star game at Mariners Centre Friday night, and raised over $24,000 for Josh Atkins and his family.
Atkins suffered a head injury after a fall, and is currently in ICU in Halifax.
Organizer Brandon Trask says it was a night he won’t soon forget.
“It was amazing. There were not many empty seats. It was almost like there was a Mariners game here. I talked to a few of the players, and they said the same thing, it had the atmosphere of a Mariners game,” says Trask.”
He thanks all the sponsors, and he says it goes to show how great people in the Tri-Counties are.
Organizer Jeff Gates says the community came through.
“It’s awesome. This is what Josh would love to see. To have his Dad here to drop the puck, and to see the fans and the kids and everyone having fun, all in support of Josh, it was great,” says Gates.
The game saw Team Yarmouth defeat Team Barrington 11-4.
There are still draws to take place for several items, with all proceeds going to Atkins and his family.
