A fundraiser for a Yarmouth man, who suffered a head injury after a fall earlier this month.
Josh Atkins, who coaches minor hockey and softball in the area, is in hospital in Halifax.
His hockey buddies have decided to put together a night at Mariners Centre this Friday, to help raise funds for Atkins and his family.
Brandon Trask with the Gentlemen’s League says they met through hockey.
“He’s a guy, as soon as you meet him, you’re automatically friends. He makes it easy. Our friendship grew more though hockey, and we’ve ended up coaching teams together,” says Trask.
There will be a league all-star game at 7 p.m. featuring teams from Yarmouth, Pubnico and Barrington.
Trask says admission is free, but there will be a spot set up for donations.
“All the money will go toward Josh, his fiancée and their two boys, who have been travelling back and forth from Halifax. It’s for anything Josh or the family needs as he heads down this road to recovery.”
There will be a ‘Chuck a Puck’ in the first intermission, and lots of opportunities to donate.
Mariners Centre donated the ice time, and the referees association will donate their fees to the cause.
