A fundraiser for Ukraine in the Town of Digby.
Local resident Diane Axent has family ties to the country, and wanted to do something to help.
For years, she’s been making Ukrainian Pysanky eggs, and last Sunday she hosted a workshop fundraiser for 25 people at the Digby Legion.
She says the eggs have a healing message.
“When a Ukrainian Pysanky egg is done in a circle or even alone, the message is that good will prevail in the world, and not evil. How appropriate for what is happening today,” says Axent.
She says it was amazing to feel the energy in the room.
“Everyone was chatting and energized, and feeling like they were a part of something. People came into the legion with 100 dollar bills, one came with $1,000.”
In all, $4,600 was raised.
The Town of Digby topped the funding up to $5,000, and have ordered a Ukrainian flag to be raised.
