The Yarmouth Mariners dominated the Miramichi Timberwolves 10-0 on Saturday night at Mariners Centre.
Reid Vos, Kurtis Lang and Logan Danis all scored twice, and Christophe Beluse made 32 saves for his second shut-out of the season.
Yarmouth took control with two first period goals over a Timberwolves team that iced just 14 skaters.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says the games will get more challenging.
“This was our fourth game since Christmas. It will be good to get back to playing two or three times a week to get playoff tested and ready. Overall, I like our team,” says Barron.
He says the offense was nice, but he was more pleased with the shut-out.
“Especially in that third period when you’re up (6-0) you tend to cheat a little bit, but I thought we played very well. In fairness to them, it was their second game in two days on a short bench. They battled hard and it was a fairly clean game.”
A change in the Mariners schedule once again, as Yarmouth will now host Pictou County this Sunday night at 7:30, instead of tomorrow night.
That means Yarmouth will have home games three nights in a row starting Friday, also against the Crushers. On Saturday, the Mariners will welcome Fredericton to the Fishtank.
The final standings will be based on points percentage, and the Mariners have the best rank in the Eastlink South Division (.703) ahead of Amherst (.613).
The playoffs begin March 24th.
