The Community Health Board has announced funding grants for non-profits in the Western Health Zone.
A total of $187,000 is being given to local projects.
Clyde deViller is the Community Health Board Coordinator for Yarmouth County, Clare and Digby & Area.
He says they look to fund programs that support the CHB’s Community Health Plan priorities.
“And one of the ways that we’re able to enact our health plan and put it into action is by funding programs that probably wouldn’t get funding otherwise. I think its important that we are able to do this for the community.”
Of the money being granted, $19,500 will fund 10 projects in Yarmouth County, $11,500 will go to five projects in Clare and $12,200 will fund eight projects in Digby & Area.
deViller discussed the kinds of projects they look to fund.
“A lot of the projects are with schools so that students have healthy snacks and something in their bellies. We do also have some projects, not just with youth, but also with adults because we know that we have food insecurity with adults also.”
They also look to fund health education workshops.
A virtual Wellness Fund Celebration for Yarmouth County, Clare and Digby & Area will be held on Monday, March 7th at 6pm via Zoom.
