More chances to honour local veterans.
The Town of Yarmouth displayed 50 banners along Main Street for a month last year around Remembrance Day.
The town has decided to add 30 more banners to their Veterans Memorial Banner Program, in partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Yarmouth Branch 61.
Mayor Pam Mood discussed what the banners mean to the community.
“For many, their family members have served in the past. For some, family members are still serving. They’re overseas, they are protecting our country, protecting us. It just goes a long way to be able to celebrate that.”
Those interested will need to send in an application to the town by March 11. A random draw will determine who can purchase a banner for $130.
The banners will be stored and used, along with the first 50, for the next three years.
Mood says as mayor, the program gives her a sense of pride.
“This community always comes together for things like this, but this is the biggest deal ever,” says Mood. “We’re doing this in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Yarmouth Branch 61, so they are fully on board and appreciative of this entire program.”

The town says you must email the name of the veteran as well as their service details to be eligible.
