The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners returned to the Fishtank Saturday night, but fell 4-2 to the Truro Bearcats.
Truro went up 3-0 after two periods, but the Mariners couldn’t find any momentum to stage a comeback.
Kurtis Lang scored on a breakaway early in the third, but the Bearcats would go up 4-1 five minutes later.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says his team got outworked, despite heavily outshooting the Bearcats.
“I thought they were a better team tonight. We got a little individualistic, and I thought they played well as a team. They soaked up a ton of shots, and blocked a lot of them,” says Barron.
Alex Roode added a late goal for the Mariners, who lost in regulation for just the eighth time this season.
Barron says they’ll learn from it.
“We outshot them, but didn’t have much puck luck and a lot of one and done chances in their zone. We didn’t move it as well as we should have.”
AJ DiChiara took the loss in goal with 15 saves, while Mavrick Goyer was named second star in Truro’s net, stopping 35 Yarmouth shots.
The Mariners take on Valley tomorrow night at home.
