
An incident involving a firearm in Hebron has led to the arrest of seven people.
On Tuesday, police responded to a report of an assault in progress at a home on Pent Lane in Hebron. They learned an eviction disagreement led to a woman being assaulted and a firearm pointed at her.
When they arrived, police closed Hwy. 340 as they attempted to negotiate everyone out of the home. Eight people emerged and seven were arrested. The victim was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Four of the arrested people were transported to the Meteghan RCMP Detachment for lodging, while the other three were sent to the Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment.
45-year-old Scott Anthony Deveau, of Hebron, has been charged with Assault, Uttering Threats, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized and Failure to Comply with a Prohibition Order. He was remanded into custody on February 16 and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court the next day. Deveau was released on conditions and will return to Yarmouth Provincial Court on March 14.
54-year-old Wadah Hendawi, of Shelburne, has been charged with Assault (2 counts), Forcible Entry (2 counts), Mischief (3 counts), Pointing a Firearm, Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order, Failure to Comply with Conditions (2 counts). He was remanded into custody on February 16 and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court the next day. Hendawi was released on conditions and will return to Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 23.
A 48-year-old man from Hebron has been released on conditions and will be facing charges of Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized. He will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
A 23-year-old man, 22-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man, all from Shelburne, have been released on conditions and will be facing charges of Mischief (3 counts), Assault and Forcible Entry (2 counts).
The RCMP have not released their names.
The remaining person was arrested but later released without charges.
The investigation is ongoing. So far, police have seized two unrestricted firearms.
