There could soon be three owners of the Mariners Centre.
At last night’s council meeting, the Municipality of Argyle passed a motion to express their intent to enter an agreement with the Town of Yarmouth and the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, to own a portion of operations at the facility.
Argyle already contributes funds to help cover deficits at the centre each year.
Warden Danny Muise says by being owners, they would have a bigger voice at the table.
“This way, we’ll have more of a say in how it’s run, how the money is being spent, staffing and many more things. We’ll have our say as owners, along with the town and municipality,” says Muise.
He says funding applications for expansion of the Mariners Centre would also have a better chance of being approved, as it would send a message that all three units are on board.
“We want everyone to know that we’re committed to being part of the expansion project, for sure.”
Muise says the next steps are meeting with the other municipal units to negotiate a contract.
The Town and MODY have stated their interest in Argyle joining as an owner.
