An outdoor skating rink in the Town of Yarmouth should soon be ready for use.
Deputy Mayor Steve Berry says installation of the rink at the former South Centennial School has been made possible through many helping hands, including the J-Strong foundation.
Several people volunteered their time to help clear snow and install tarps that were ordered by the local Canadian Tire, and the Yarmouth Fire Department flooded the 5,000 square foot court last week.
Berry says this will be great for the community.
“Sometimes you just have a dream and you see it through. Here we are a week after we started almost ready to go. We’re hoping to have colder temperatures this week so the ice can be solid. Can’t wait to see families and community members out there skating,” says Berry.
He says the rink will be for use at your own risk, and helmets are required.
Berry says the South Church is taking donations of used skates for kids.
