Landline phone and internet service remains out in areas of Tusket to Morris Island.
Bell Aliant are addressing the problem, but residents may not be re-connected until tomorrow.
In a statement to our newsroom, they say the issue is a high priority and crews are making progress with repairs.
An underground wire was frozen and damaged on Courthouse Road in the last storm.
Argyle councillor Guy Surette says this affects those without cell service in the area.
“If someone has to call 911, and they only have a landline, they encouraged to go to their neighbours house, if they can, and use a cellphone to call for emergency services,” says Surette.
He says the local fire departments also rely on pagers to get to an emergency.
Since the outage, the departments are now using texting in case there’s a fire.
Surette is also critical of Bell Aliant, saying they should have notified customers of the issues as soon as they were discovered.
“It’s a huge safety concern. It’s not acceptable for Bell Aliant to not notify the public as to what’s going on. I find that very disheartening.”
Surette says he’s been trying to keep the community notified as best as possible on social media.
He says Bell notified the Yarmouth Regional Emergency Management Office of the outage yesterday.
Bell Aliant says the majority of services have been restored and they anticipate the remaining customers will have service back tomorrow.
