It’s trade deadline day in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
The Yarmouth Mariners have acquired 20 year old forward Max-Antoine Melancon from Pictou County.
Melancon is a former QMJHL player, and posted 27 points in 24 games with Summerside this season.
Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says he’s a very good player.
“He’s very gifted offensively, and a big body presence. He’s exactly what we were looking for as far as helping us up front, and playing in our top six forward group,” says Barron.
Barron also picked up veteran defender Jack Morris from the Crushers for a pair of draft picks.
The Mariners are sitting in first place in the Eastlink South Division, and Barron says they’re going for it.
“We think we’re right there, and we want to go as deep as we can this year and make some noise. With the Fred Page Cup being in Summerside this year, that sweetens the pot a little bit.”
The league is scheduled to resume play in early February.
