Nova Scotia’s top doctor says there are real challenges in our healthcare system.
At yesterday’s briefing, Doctor Robert Strang said the Omicron variant is having an impact on the workforce at hospitals and long-term care facilities.
He says hospitals are over capacity, creating long wait times for care, along with cancellations of non-urgent tests and procedures.
“I’m not saying this to scare anyone, if you are experiencing an emergency you will get care, but if your health concern is not urgent, please at this time do not visit the emergency department,” says Dr. Strang.
Instead, he recommends visiting your family doctor, walk-in clinic or calling 811 to speak to a registered nurse.
He says there is very little flexibility right now, and Nova Scotians need to do their part to help healthcare workers care for those who need it most.
