A year of changes for Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill.
He began 2021 as the province’s Minister of Health and Wellness, as the third wave of COVID-19 was gripping Nova Scotia.
Churchill says he appreciated having the opportunity to serve the public during that time.
“I’m in the business to have an impact and to do things. Stephen McNeil really helped us in establishing a blueprint to combat COVID-19 from a policy perspective, and we stuck with that blueprint through that period.” says Churchill.
He says being part of the vaccine rollout was also a highlight.
“We were last among provinces in vaccine rates, but we were able to quickly overtake every single province, and that was so satisfying. We were able to do that, particularly because we worked with our pharmacies.”
Churchill got re-elected in August, but the Liberals lost the provincial election, and now are the official opposition.
Now, as the opposition critic for health, Churchill says he’ll be focused on keeping government accountable in 2022.
He says when looking back on 2021, he’s also proud of helping to enhance cancer care in Yarmouth, and to get the Trikafta drug approved for use for Cystic Fibrosis patients in Nova Scotia.
