The Head Coach and General Manager of the Yarmouth Mariners is staying positive, as sports in our province are shut down again due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The MHL has been through this a lot over the last two years, as the league has not crowned a champion since 2019, when Yarmouth swept the Campbellton Tigers.
Laurie Barron says it’s not easy to look on the bright side, but he remains hopeful.
“I’d like to think that we can make this right, get a second half in and award a championship. We’re eager to defend it. We’ve got the trophy sitting in my office, and we’d like to keep it right where it sits,” says Barron.
The Mariners sit in first place in the Eastlink South Division, two points ahead of the second place Ramblers.
Barron says the Mariners are going in the right direction, and with the trade deadline in early January, he’ll only make a move if it makes sense for his hockey club.
“You can’t be quite as aggressive as maybe you would be in normal times. We only have five 20 year old’s, so we’re set up well for next season. Having said that, I think we’re equipped to go on a run this year.”
Under the new province-wide restrictions in effect until January 12th, no sports games can be held.
