The new year will bring a new fire engine for a Digby County department.
The Plympton and Gilbert’s Cove Fire Department were the successful bidder for the Kentville Fire Department’s current primary engine.
Kentville will be receiving a brand new engine sometime next month, and then the current one will be handed-over.
Chief of the Plympton and Gilbert’s Cove department Colin Marshall says the 2000 E-One Superior Truck will replace their current 1986 model.
“It’s the newest fire truck we’ve ever had, for an engine. Our members are very excited to get it and start working and training with it. Hopefully it will bring in a few more volunteer members,” says Marshall.
The new-to-them vehicle has an 800 gallon water tank and a top-mount water pump. It can also transport a crew of six to a scene.
There are about 20 members of the Plympton and Gilbert’s Cove department, and Chief Marshall says they’re hopeful the new engine will attract even more members.
“Young or old, junior members, we welcome you. We always need drivers as well. If anyone wants to come out and help their community, it’s a good place to start.”
Marshall says the neighbouring department in Brighton-Barton will be receiving the 1986 engine.
