A special Remembrance Day service was held at Maple Grove Education Centre yesterday.
Students in the Community Pride Group helped organize the service, which was held outside the school and attended by Yarmouth and Wedgeport legion members and Veterans Place residents.
Teacher Darren Muise says they began planning it in September, following the Veterans Affairs template.
“People followed COVID protocols very well. We had a nice service. It was ended with students from school being able to pin their poppies into foam crosses that their Principal Mr. Kenney was kind enough to make for them,” says Muise.
Muise says it meant a lot to the students and veterans to be able to have an in-person service this year.
“The veterans came yesterday on their bus, and it was nice for them to be here. As for the students, we’re losing that connection of memories for World War II and the Korean War, so it’s a very meaningful experience for them to be able to see veterans at their school that witnessed these events first hand.”
The group also have helped place Canadian flags on veterans graves in the area, with assistance from the 84th Independent Field Battery.
